Board Committees

Board Advancement

The Board Advancement Committee is responsible for the identification and cultivation of potential board members. It oversees board member terms with awareness of related board leadership positions. Efforts of this committee will also be directed toward the development of new member orientation and general board education.

Development

The Development Committee is engaged in connecting with community resources to secure the long-term future of WSSL. It is responsible for the Annual Fund Campaign which is critical for the development and growth of WSSL. Additionally, its immediate scope of work includes continued development of WSSL identity, cultivating valuable community relationships, and preparing for a major gifts campaign.

Fundraising Events

This subcommittee is responsible for planning supporting fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Efforts include adult fundraising events in the fall and spring. Event planning, donation solicitation, volunteer coordination, and event promotion are all critical to its success.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is comprised of the Board President, Board Vice-President, and Faculty Chairperson. As a leadership team, it directs Board meeting agendas and oversees the coordination of efforts between the three pillars of the school.

Finance

The members of the Finance Committee manage the school’s finances, formulate budgets, administer the tuition policy, and make financial decisions related to all school matters. The Finance Committee reports regularly to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for both short-term and long-term financial planning for the school.

Personnel

This committee oversees the human resources needs of the school. Ad hoc hiring and contract committees are formed as needed to address the addition of new teachers and compensation of the faculty body. In addition, this committee develops and researches important personnel policies, employee benefits, and supports the training and professional development of WSSL faculty and staff.

 
 
 
 

Faculty Committees

Accreditation

The Accreditation Committee is actively engaged in communication with the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). Ongoing visits from AWSNA representatives and regular reports are completed as The Waldorf School of St. Louis works towards accreditation as a fully established Waldorf school.

Care Committee

The Care Committee is a faculty committee comprised of teachers and administrative staff at The Waldorf School of St. Louis who focus on supporting students who face academic, emotional, and physical challenges. The committee oversees the response to student needs by working in partnership with parents, teachers, and professionals. Its overarching goal is to support the healthy development of the child both inside and outside of the classroom. In practical terms, the Care Committee assists and supports the interaction of teachers, parents, and outside professionals. It helps facilitate meetings to discuss classroom accommodations and the student’s progress. If necessary, the committee offers suggestions to class teachers about options for assessment and therapeutic support.

Good Will

This committee cares for the mood of the faculty body. It organizes an annual retreat and birthday celebrations, as well as support for faculty members facing personal hardship.

Hiring

When hiring for new faculty positions, this small group posts positions and oversees each candidate’s hiring process. The committee holds initial interviews and provides feedback to the full faculty body. A final recommendation for each hire is made from this committee to the faculty for consideration.

 
 
 

 Administration Committees

Operations

This committee is a decision-making group, which serves to support the daily operation and administrative work of the school. Its primary function is often the coordination of efforts requiring faculty, administrative and parent involvement. The care of school buildings is also held by this group.

Grounds

The Grounds Committee is entrusted with the care of the outdoor spaces of our campus. Committee members will strive to maintain the grounds, organize campus workdays, attend to the teacher’s outdoor space needs and desires and make recommendations for the long-term vision for the campus. Safety concerns of outdoor spaces are also addressed by this group.

Outreach

The mission of the Outreach Committee is to promote The Waldorf School of St. Louis Waldorf School to the outside community for the purpose of increasing enrollment and community awareness. Areas of responsibility include advertising, publicizing events, updating the website, representing the school at area events, and creating flyers and brochures.
